Drop whatever you're doing, we have a situation in here! A stay-at-home mother has posted a picture of the 'impossible to open' cupboard and she needs your tips to open it without destroying these precious porcelain plates.
'A cupboard that can never be opened,' - read the caption. Of course, you can never throw words like 'never' online because soon after posting, the army of kind-hearted internauts came pouring in (16,000 reactions and 456 comments) to help this lady with getting her plates to safety.
What would you do in this situation? Post your answers below!
Update: The photo was actually taken after an earthquake in the Tottori Prefecture on October 21st, in a hotel owned by the Kishida family.

Keep the plates and cupboard exactly as they are as an art installation. But even artists have to eat, so make sure you get new plates and cupboard. If you can't afford to have two sets of plates and two cupboards, ticket your new art installation to the public to cover the cost.

Slide a sheet of bendy but firm plastic or mdf wood trough the bottom of the door. Open the door. Essentially you're replacing the door with something you can then slide down and gain access to the plates from the top. DONE.

If those are Irreplaceable China I would say go to hardware store and get a window popper. First use tape to keep that cabinet shut ,Then carefully break the window below slowly stuff a few old bed sheets to stabilize the dishes the pop the glass pain above the dishes and remove your priceless goods. Careful not to cut your self. Good luck! !!

It's Easy Peasy.......You just need to find a kid who's a champion cup stacker.
When you pull the door open, he or she will have no problem gathering the dishes into a proper stack without breaking either a dish or a sweat. Pay the kid and then put him/her name in for a scholarship to Stack University.

Have this cabinet as a display cabinet. Get another one for actual use. In the mean time, this can be some Tracey Emin-esque art.

Get a glass cutter, cut out the top glass, reach through, save dishes.

Remove the pane directly above the plates on the left, get on a ladder then reach inside and retrieve the plates carefully. Then do what I do, invest in a couple rolls of SOLID grip rubber liner (20"x6' length) and line your cupboards shelves with them and anything else you treasure to keep from bouncing and breaking, it's worth the $8.74 a roll I pay at Walmart! Here's a pic of the roll that I also use on my desktop to keep the keyboard from sliding off of the pull out keyboard drawer.

Put a basket with laundry in it under the cabinet door. That way the laundry softens the landing, hopefully preventing breakage. It may allow you the time to stop the others from falling at all.

Simple: It is MIND OVER MATTER, open the door, catch as many as you can, go ahead put a pillow on the floor for laughs. In the end, we don't mind as it doesn't matter

Get another person to help - two cushions and open the door as fast as possible - planning is important - get both new fluffed up pillows under as many as possible so they all fall onto the pillows - you may still lose a few but not all. If you have excel pillows also place them on the floor surrounding the cupboard.

You need a metal metre ruler. Slide up from the bottom holding the dishes in while someone else opens the cupboard door. Easy.

Ask a glass cutter to open the glass on the right side slowly, then carefully lift the plates that are about to fall back to the shelf or remove them. It's cheaper to pay a glass cutter than to buy a new set of China plates specially if they are the expensive ones.
