To tell you the truth, I don’t believe that even the best anti-smoking ads can make you quit smoking after you see it. It’s just not that easy to break bad habits. When a smoker runs into another anti-smoking campaign, often the reaction is: “Yes, maybe it’s cool, but it won’t make me quit.” Well, of course, even the most creative advertising won’t change your mind in a second, but it does create the awareness that smoking is a BAD thing.
When a message is being repeated over and over again, it finds its place somewhere deep inside your unconscious mind, especially those visual metaphors in ads. It takes time, but someday it may build up and it will seem as though YOU have the idea – “I really need to stop smoking, I quit!” What may seem like your own idea on quitting smoking, could be a huge job of those creative anti-smoking social ads you used to see everywhere.
