What could a seesaw teach us about relationships? Or a butterfly about personal growth? In the world of Brazilian cartoonist and illustrator Guilherme Bandeira, even the most ordinary objects and creatures have something interesting to say about life. His colorful comics combine humor, irony, and clever observations about human behavior, often delivering an unexpected message in just a few panels.
Bandeira frequently introduces his illustrations with the Portuguese phrase “Enquanto isso, em um universo paralelo…” (“Meanwhile, in a parallel universe…”). It's a fitting description of the imaginative world he creates, where animals, plants, and everyday objects come to life and find themselves dealing with surprisingly familiar situations. Whether it's a caterpillar explaining that change isn't always visible or two ladybugs looking at the same rose from completely different perspectives, his characters have plenty to teach us about ourselves.
We've gathered a selection of his comics that showcase an unusual creativity and sense of humor. Scroll down to explore this little universe, and let us know which illustrations you found the funniest or most thought-provoking.
