With his big green eyes, tiny frame, and little pink tongue that often sticks out, Skippy is the kind of cat who can make anyone smile. But behind his adorable appearance is a story of survival, serious health challenges, and a devoted owner who has done everything she can to give him a happy and comfortable life.
Skippy's journey began when he was discovered alone in a field, crying out for help and unable to walk. He was brought to an animal hospital, where Rachel, a veterinary clinic employee, decided to take him in as a medical foster. His condition was so severe that nobody was certain he would survive. “When I took him on as a medical foster, I did not know how long he was going to be with us. We didn't think he'd make it that week,” Rachel recalled.

As veterinarians examined Skippy, it became clear his health problems were more complicated than they first appeared. He had significant abnormalities affecting his bone development, and doctors suspected he might have a form of feline dwarfism. Despite undergoing testing, the exact cause of his condition remained uncertain.

Even as an adult, Skippy remained incredibly small, weighing just around four pounds (1.8 kilograms). Unfortunately, his unusual bone development also caused serious mobility problems. As he grew, some of his bones fused, making it increasingly difficult for him to move independently.

Caring for Skippy quickly became a major responsibility. He needed daily medication to manage pain and inflammation, a special prescription diet to help with digestive issues, and assistance with everyday activities. Rachel also explored additional treatments, including acupuncture and laser therapy, to keep him as comfortable as possible.

Despite these challenges, Skippy kept defying expectations. The little kitten who wasn't expected to survive his first week in foster care went on to celebrate his first birthday and approach his second, reaching milestones that once seemed almost impossible.

While his physical limitations make everyday life a little different, they haven't stopped his personality from shining through. Skippy is affectionate, expressive, and full of character. He enjoys being close to his favorite people, and his unmistakable appearance has helped him win plenty of admirers.

Rachel's work at the veterinary clinic also means Skippy can accompany her rather than spending long periods at home alone. Between his medical needs and the attention he requires throughout the day, caring for him is a significant commitment, but it's one Rachel is more than willing to make.
