Pretty much anything can become material for one of Joseph Nowak’s cartoons. Animals behave according to their own wonderfully questionable logic, everyday expressions are taken a little too literally, familiar characters find themselves in ridiculous situations, and even darker subjects can become the setup for an unexpectedly silly joke. The result is a collection in which figuring out what could happen next is part of the fun.
The artist has described his work as “silly,” and that simple word fits his comics surprisingly well. Rather than relying on much dialogue, Nowak often takes an ordinary scenario and changes one small detail until the whole thing becomes absurd. Many of his cartoons require no words at all, because the visual subject itself is the joke, drawn to be the satirical, absurd, or just downright weird version of the real thing. Joseph’s work should already be familiar to longtime Bored Panda readers, as we’ve featured his comics numerous times before, which just goes to show how much comedic talent he has.
