Drop whatever you're doing, we have a situation in here! A stay-at-home mother has posted a picture of the 'impossible to open' cupboard and she needs your tips to open it without destroying these precious porcelain plates.
'A cupboard that can never be opened,' - read the caption. Of course, you can never throw words like 'never' online because soon after posting, the army of kind-hearted internauts came pouring in (16,000 reactions and 456 comments) to help this lady with getting her plates to safety.
What would you do in this situation? Post your answers below!
Update: The photo was actually taken after an earthquake in the Tottori Prefecture on October 21st, in a hotel owned by the Kishida family.

Have two person do the job. One places something soft, a lage thick blanket etc on his/her arm. The distance between the blanket and the falling plates should not be to big (so the plates can fall softly into the blanket). The other person, open the cupboard slowly, and whenever there is a chance, place a hand in to adjust the plates prior to then following. Done!

It appears no one has noticed that the cabinet has SLIDING doors. Slide the door open very carefully about four inches. Have someone with thin arms push dishes back far enough to allow access bowls.

go to Dollar Store buy poster board maybe even if you slip it in between the shelf and the plates and then tape it so that way it stays firm and then you can slip your hand in between the cupboard and the plates pushing the plates back up on the Shelf

I would first make sure the door could not open or move in any way. Then I would cut the glass panel above the one the plated are against. and very carefully with both hands gather the plates upward. to rest on the shelf again.

Use a wok strainer with a handle things enough to slide the handle through the slightly cracked door. Hold the strainer right under the bowls. Then have someone else quickly open the door and grab them before they fall to the floor.

Smash everything in your house then open the cupboard....at that point a few broken dishes won't look as bad.

Take the cupboard door ooff at the hinges while someone is supporting it to stay closed. Lean the door forward by opening it slowly from the top. Reach in from the side and push plates back onto the shelf.

I like the balloon idea, but aren't these bowls, not plates?

If the cupboard can be tilted, ask for help to smoothly and slightly tilt the cupboard so all wares fall slowly undamaged to other side of the door. When everything inside are stably position.. open the door.

Is that a sliding door?
Can you open the door slowly, very slowly and with your left hand - reach in and catch the plates, push them back on to the shelf?

Squeeze a deflated balloon in the crevice where the door opens and inflate it with a straw or air pump. Tie it off and repeat the process until you can no longer fit any more in the cupboard and the plates are held up by the balloons. Then open door slowly and just enough to stick your hand to take them out one by one.
