Drop whatever you're doing, we have a situation in here! A stay-at-home mother has posted a picture of the 'impossible to open' cupboard and she needs your tips to open it without destroying these precious porcelain plates.
'A cupboard that can never be opened,' - read the caption. Of course, you can never throw words like 'never' online because soon after posting, the army of kind-hearted internauts came pouring in (16,000 reactions and 456 comments) to help this lady with getting her plates to safety.
What would you do in this situation? Post your answers below!
Update: The photo was actually taken after an earthquake in the Tottori Prefecture on October 21st, in a hotel owned by the Kishida family.

If the door opens sideways, slide it till the plates still rest against the glass door. That gives enough space for someone to slip his hand and hold the plates..rest is all teamwork

Not to worry. A message has been sent to Tom cruise with the note "Your mission, should you choose to accept it" with a link to this site. In a couple of days and a few million dollars worth of damages, your plates shall be returned to you, in mint condition.

Buy a glass cutter, cut the glass just underneath the plates about the size your hand would fit. Then push the plates above a bit. Very unlikely you will save all the plates though but at least some will be saved.

This is an absolute dilemma!!!
I suggest having the right glass professionally cut & retrieving the precious plates.
Having said that such dishes may have fed many dear ones & their sentimental value is irreplaceable.
She'll have them back & this is how ordinary things bring back the best of memories.

Buy one similar plate, and smash it in front of the others, they should go back in place by themself !!!!

Well, let's see now. 1. Are they passed down from an older generation? If so, break the glass aboveboard them and catch them before they fall. 2. Of you bought them from a store last year to impress those women who only like you for the things you have in your house, pay a teen 20.00 to open and clean up!

Start by removing the top planks of the shelf, gradually, you'll get to the plates

fill the room and floor with marshmallows, get you and your family dressed up in bubble wrap suits covered in marshmallows, stand in front of the cupboard, open the door and voila, plates will land safely in marshmallow land and all that remains is for you and the family to eat your way through the marshmallows to retrieve your plates. You probably wont need them then though as you will be full from eating all the marshmallows
