I agree with you. And if she thinks she did communicate well enough, but it was to no avail, then she needs to end the relationship. Otherwise, she‘s dooming her child to grow up with two parents who resent each other. Now the husband is a complete AH, no question. But you can’t raise your child in an "Your dad doesn’t respect or value me, but I don’t care because I hate him just as much" environment.

I don’t think this is a generational thing. This happened to me, too, when I was a kid 30+ years ago. And my own kid happened to attend a birthday party just last month, and everyone who couldn’t come let the parents know in advance.
