I have never had a child. One time I had a very late ectopic pregnancy that needed an emergency cut like a c section. For a long time after, at least several weeks, I couldn't even lift a half full kettle. My sister's MIL is much like OP's, so I stayed with my sister for the first few months after her first child until she was strong enough to stand up for herself.
