I’d gone to the ER for severe stomach pain that was basically dismissed and I was sent home. I returned later that evening In excruciating pain and initially felt ignored again. One nurse recognized me from earlier and jumped me to the front of the line so to speak. The first thing the new er dr said to me was “I’m dr___. I’m going to get you some really good pain meds and then we can figure out what’s going on.” Within two hours I was in surgery because my intestines had ruptured from a blockage and I was septic. I spent 2months in icu. I almost died and it could have been avoided by the first dr taking me seriously and finding the blockage before my intestines tore. The day I left the hospital my nurses arranged for me to meet the er dr that saw me the second time. I cried like a baby thanking him.
