I fell in love with Samus the moment I played Metroid Prime on my GameCube when I was a little girl, but I assumed she was a man. I grew up playing only male characters, because they were the only choice I had. When I found out Samus was a woman, it really changed my perspective on things. Samus was one of the first female protagonists in video game history, and she inspired me to be a badass.
I've always loved video games, but people always asked "why do you play?" or told me "video games are for boys." When I was a teenager I got harassed on Xbox Live and was told things no 14 year old girl should have to hear. I was a nerd and an outcast, but I never lost hope because of Samus. She made me feel like I belonged in the video game world, despite what everyone else said.
Today I am a software engineer at Xbox, and follow my passion in cosplay and dance outside of work. I thought it would be amazing to combine my love of dance and cosplay to make a video, and I had so much fun bringing Samus to life!
