Why Photographing Baby Twins Always Makes My Day

They say it's twice as hard taking pictures of newborn twins, but then again it twice as fun!
It's true, the day may be long, the baby models may be running the show with their own timing schedule and snack breaks but once the camera is on and everyone is settled, magic happens.
It's amazing to see the bond these tiny humans have so early on and I can't help but wonder what it must be like to have your best buddy for life next to you from the moment you are born.
On a typical newborn session involving twins I will normally start with individual pictures of one of the babies while the other one is being fed and if all goes well and my plan works, we'll be able to have some shots of the two of them together right after that. Babies love skin to skin so placing them lying next to each other will instantly soothe and settle them.
I love arriving on set to meet those tiny identical siblings wondering how I will be able to tell them apart. And given some time I will start noticing the ever so slight differences. The shape of nose or lips, a little mark on the cheek or longer eye lashes. These little details are never obvious but yet, by the end of the photo session I always end up thinking how did I not notice them sooner.
This is just a small selection of some of my favourite baby twin pictures from recent London photo shoots. In times of social isolation they bring a smile on my face and that can only be a good thing.
