Everyday we're sold the facade that diamonds are beyond our reach because of the perceived value we see in store displays. Did you know that what we see tagged in stores are actually made up numbers forced upon us by intelligent marketing ploys to take as much money from you as possible if you let them? The diamond retail mark up is relatively 400% - 600% of the wholesale value. If you were to purchase your diamond, much like a car the value would decline as soon as you take your new sparkly piece of carbon outside of the store. Of course you're protected under your store's return policy within 7 - 60 days for different stores. In my case I had a week to propose, then figure it out from there. Had I known I wasn't going to need the diamond 6 months from purchase nor did I realize that the diamond would be worth 1/10th of my purchase price, I would've rethought my purchase. If only returning your ex-significant other so easy, but I digress. As if heart break wasn't so bad, now you have to deal with the fact that you're stuck with a piece of object much like your relationship 1/10th the value of when you started. Yes I went there. I'm not bitter, just saving whoever the pain of heart and wallet break. Do yourselves a favor and invest in something more logical like baseball cards, gold, silver, or better dates. Yes invest in your significant other with better dates. Okay I'm not bitter anymore that I got this off my chest.
