Why Does It Seem As Though So Many People Don't Know How To Interact With Other People Unless It's Through Social Media Of Some Sort?

It seems like everywhere I go anymore, people have got their faces in their phones. Even if they're driving...on the highways even! People sitting across from one another silent, while only engaging with others on their phones. I often wonder why/ how this is.
