When You Ask Your Baby Photographer Friend To Dogsit For You.

What happens when you’re a baby photographer, and you look after your friend’s dog? Meet Jordan, the 4 year old Miniature Schnauzer. Is she not the most placid puppy you’ve ever met?!
Jordan’s human Mum is one of my best friends, so when she was lucky enough to get a work trip to Japan I had the honour of looking after her fur baby for 5 days! So as a baby photographer, of course the first thing that came to my mind was “I wonder if I can get Jordan to do a puppy photoshoot…”! Sure enough, before I was even finished getting setup, this amazing pooch jumped up on my posing beanbag all on her own and started gazing out the window while solving world peace! I quickly scrambled to grab my camera and find a bright coloured wrap to start styling her session!
There was no knowing how long Jordie was going to sit still for me, but once I had wrapped her up in the beautiful red swaddle, she seemed to relax a little more and just give in! So not much different to my usual newborn shoots, although those types of babies are generally fast asleep.
I had my own puppy for 12 years, “Chopper” the Boxer who sadly passed away a few years ago, and I haven’t been able to bring myself to ‘replace’ him as yet. But after minding Jordan, my heart is crying out for a new furry companion. I’ve never had any other type of dog apart form my beloved Boxers, but now I’m being drawn to Miniature Schnauzers because of their calm and obedient nature. There’s no way a 4 year old Boxer would suit still for event 10 seconds! What other breeds would you recommend so that I can train my dog to do a new photoshoot every day (haha)? I have a townhouse with only a courtyard and balcony, so it probably needs to be a small dog - although thankfully I live next door to the amazing Edinburgh Gardens in Melbourne (Australia) which is perfect for walks and toilet breaks.
