What Is Maturity?

Earlier I used to walk into a room full of people and wonder if they liked me...

... now I look around and wonder if I like them. That is maturity.

Earlier I used to talk to people and say things just to seek approval...

... now I talk to people without making their opinion more important than mine. That is maturity.

Earlier I used to avoid going to social gatherings alone for fear of being left out...

... now I go alone and make new friends. That is maturity.

Earlier I used to sit with a stack of books and worry how will I read them...

... now I don't waste time worrying and instead read them. That is maturity.

Earlier I used to opt for simple courses and get all As...

... now I opt for courses that interest me and risk getting Bs. That is maturity.

Earlier I used to sign papers sent over by apartment president…

... now I stick another paper prompting other residents to sign if they don’t agree. That is maturity.

Earlier I used to look at others and wonder why I’m not like them…

... now I look at myself and revel in my uniqueness. That is maturity.

Earlier I used to go to a government official and agonize silently if he can’t get my work done…

... now I complain to his manager and promise to make him infamous in media. That is maturity.

Earlier I used to stay late in office and hate my manager for asking me to…

... now I don’t oblige and tell him I got things to take care of besides office. That is maturity.

Earlier I used to drive in traffic and get angry at other drivers…

... now I accept traffic as part of life and don’t allow anger to cloud my judgment. That is maturity.

Earlier I used to answer personal questions by recruiters and feel uncomfortable…

... now I change the course and ask them the relevance of the question. That is maturity.

Earlier I used to like someone and wished him to like me…

... now I like myself and get liked by others. That is maturity.
