In November 2016 we left our sedentary life, and caught a plane to Guadalajara. It was the first stop on a journey that would take us from Mexico all the way to Patagonia.
Traveling as a family, our preschooler accompanied us wherever we went, be it mountain hikes, boat trips or jungle excursions. But no matter what, he wouldn't let us compromise on his daily naps. In the following photos, my camera caught him sleeping peacefully in some of the most extraordinary locations we've been to.

Isla Plaza Sur, Galapagos. The ground vegetation changes its colour from intense green to purple in the dry season

Isla Santa Fé, Galapagos. Huge cacti trees are endemic to Galapagos

Great Pyramid of Cholula, Puebla, Mexico. The largest pyramid known to exist in the world today

Templo Mayor, Mexico City. The main temple of the Aztec empire, discovered just 30 years ago in the center of Mexico City

Tortuguero National Park, Caribbean coast of Costa Rica

Matagalpa, Nicaragua. Located in the mountain region, it's the coffee capital of Nicaragua.

Waking up at Guachimontones, one of the only circular pyramids in the world. Jalisco, Mexico.

Paramo Sumapaz, Colombia. A unique alpine tundra ecosystem, found mainly in the Colombian Andes. Due to the high altitude, the temperatures are low year round

Plaza Bolívar, Bogotá, Colombia. Here, in 1985 members of the M-19 Marxist guerrilla group launched an attack against the Supreme Court, taking hostages in the Palace of Justice

On Monserrate mountain, that dominates the city center of Bogotá. It rises to 3,152 metres above the sea level.

Castillo de San Felipe, Cartagena, Colombia. Built by the Spanish in the 16th century to defend the city against English pirates.

"Mitad del Mundo", Quito, Ecuador. The yellow line marks the equator

Military complex of Ollantaytambo, Sacred Valley, Peru. At the time of the Spanish conquest, it served as a stronghold for Manco Inca Yupanqui, leader of the Inca resistance

Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley. Hiking an inca road towards the Sun Gate

Plaza de Armas, Arequipa, Peru

Sailing on the Amazon. Iquitos, Peru

Rimac, Lima. The balconies of Lima are items of cultural heritage built during the Spanish colonial rule, and they have been crucial in UNESCO's declaration of the Historic Center of Lima as a World Heritage Site

Fiesta de la Candelaria, Lima. Together with Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, it's one of the three largest festivals in South America

Torres del Paine National Park, Patagonia, Chile

Plazo de Mayo, Buenos Aires. Celebration of the First Congress of Argentina

Little Africa, Rio De Janeiro. A historical neighbourhood where enslaved Africans escaped and organized resistence during slavery

Salvador de Bahia, Brazil. Salvador was the first slave port in the Americas and the African influence of the slaves' descendants makes it a center of Afro-Brazilian culture.
