I work in a really fun creative office with 14 different nationalities so we wanted to celebrate diversity by uniting people through music, regardless of faith, gender, skin colour or cultural differences.
Our crowd-sourced artists (and friends!) shows us that disparate instruments and musicians sound greater as a unified whole - resulting in the global orchestra The World In Tune.
The beauty of this piece is that you yourself are the conductor, and you can play the videos separately or at the same time, starting and stopping them at different points to create a piece of music that's different every time - and somehow always manages to sound beautiful.
We invited musicians from every corner of the globe to submit YouTube videos of themselves playing their chosen instrument for two or three minutes. All that was specified was the key and some rough guidelines of what to play.
The result is 16 videos music videos from six continents embedded on a single web page, which seem to synchronise beyond time and place.
So who created this musical piece? Did you create it? Did the musicians create it? Did the composer create it?
- Perhaps we all created it by playing in tune with each other, listening to each other, and creating beautiful harmonies across the borders.
The inspiration behind the project was to bring people together at a time when others are building walls and marking out boundaries. Music is a universal language which is understood by everyone and transcends borders.
