I've been looking for a time and place to tell my story about how I and my puppy came to be... Thia is now almost 8 months old and this picture of her was taken back in Jan of 2020. She is my love and the one soul most responsible for helping me get through this crazy time of Pandemic.
Back in Jan of this year before all the craziness hit the fan... I was walking from my mom's house to catch a bus that would take me back to my apartment in downtown San Antonio. I was stopped right there in my tracks when this sweet, furry, little brown and white being came up to me on the sidewalk and began attacking me with her cuteness... her siblings soon came out and followed her lead.
For months I'd been wanting to bring a dog into my life... I thought I'd find the right one eventually... but had no real plans on how to actually make that happen. I had even purchased a dog blanket in preparation for someday... and now just as the universe had planned that day had arrived! It was pretty much love at first sight because my heart was open and ready.
She came in and broke my heart wide open... there was no way I was leaving there without her. She and three of her little puppy siblings had escaped the backyard and were running loose and into the streets of the neighborhood I had grown up in. I picked her up and was given several little, wet, puppy kisses... I could smelled the puppy breath and that's how they get you... I was a goner... she had me right then and there. I knew we would soon be forming an alliance built for the ages.
I knocked several times on the door of the house that the puppies were coming from and no one answered. I saw a man who was walking by and asked him if he knew anything about the puppies. His response was... 'just take one'. This house seemed to have an overflow of pets and the neighbors seemed to be rather upset because of it.
I couldn't just walk away with her it didn't seem right... so I waited nearly two hours for the people who lived there to return. While I was waiting a number of interesting things seemed to take place there on that sidewalk that evening.
The next door neighbor was clearly not a fan of the puppies running around and such... she told me she was ready to call Animal Control to come and cart them all away. There was no way I was going to just let that happen. I let her know that I had picked out one of the puppies and I was holding onto her because I wanted to take her home with me.
The neighbor seemed to soften her view of the situation... she said If I was willing to do that... she would actually take me, and the puppy squirming around in my arms, downtown to my apartment... I couldn't see taking her on the bus with me... so I agreed that would be a great idea. She needed to make dinner for her and her kids and if I would wait she'd be willing to give us both a ride to my apartment bldg.
While I was there waiting a car pulled up and two young ladies got out. They were also interested in the puppies they had seen running around. We were all concerned that they could get hit by a car and no one wanted that to happen. One of the girls lived in the neighborhood... she took two of the puppies home with her to give them baths and feed them.
Not long after that another car pulled up and a couple got out. They were also asking about the puppies they had seen wandering the street. Some of the neighbors were telling folks... 'please just take the puppies home with you'. The couple picked up a little boy pup that was brown and white. It looked a lot like my sweet girl... they decided to take him home with them.
Eventually the people who lived in the house the puppies had come from showed up. I greeted them and told them that I'd like to take one of their puppies home with me... but I had wanted to wait and see if they were okay with that. They were actually very nice about it... they knew that they were kind of in over their heads... you could tell they actually cared about these little guys... they may have had a few fleas but they were otherwise healthy and well fed.
I had already picked out the name Thia while I was waiting and hanging out talking to the neighbors... I new I'd have to give her a name that began with a T... she has a white mark on the back of her neck that resembles a T. Now with the previous owners blessing I was able to bring my sweet baby girl home with me.
It seemed rather magically-wonderful and amazing to me that not only did my little girl get a safe place to call home... all of her siblings did as well... and all right there in that one evening. It had still been light outside when all of this began to unfold and it was now beginning to turn to twilight.
The neighbor next door finally emerged from her house with her young daughter. She was ready to make good on her promise to take Thia and I downtown to her new home. She even made a stop at a grocery store on the way so I could buy some puppy food. Thia was so calm and well behaved during the whole car ride... the little girl asked if she could hold Thia while I went into the store... and now as they always seem to say... the rest is history.
Somehow the universe just opened up and brought the two of us together that evening. I think God knew that we would really be needing each other. I could have kept walking past that house and caught my bus... I would have spent this entire Pandemic alone with out her silly sweetness, and her unconditional love in my life... I am so glad and thankful to have her here with me.
With the help of a Dr.'s letter she's now my ESA... as I journey through my daily life she now goes everywhere with me. She's responsible for helping me to hold it together during these very strange times... If you are kind hearted person and finding it hard to cope during these strange times... I highly recommend that you adopt a puppy... it will change both of your lives for the better. Thank you universe and thank you Thia... I love you my sweet little girl!

Thia in her new home...
