Candela and I were looking forward to a more exciting lifestyle than the classic 9 to 5 structure. At the time, I was working as a lawyer in a court and Cande was teaching maths at a posh high school in Cordoba.
We spent a couple of years traveling separately, including long bicycle trips through South America and New Zealand and a 2-year round trip from Alaska to Argentina. After several experiences working in different countries, we decided to start traveling as a couple.
Upon embarking in our first joint adventure, we cycled all the way from our hometown Alta Gracia, located in the heart of Argentina, to the far South of the country, which took us 4 months and 2,500 miles of pedaling.
At the end of that voyage we reached the conclusion that we needed a home to touch base after our trips, so we built our Casa Casera (homemade house) for the next year and a half. We repurposed industrial pallets and demolition debris using Youtube and online tutorials to learn about the balloon frame technique and adapt it to our resources.
Once the house was built we came up with a way to travel without spending a large amount of money while being able to visit places that were out of our budget.
So we created @Ratatrip, our travel and lifestyle Instagram profile, and almost immediately we began drawing the attention of different brands, companies and followers.
These sponsorships allowed us to travel through 45 countries on 4 different continents and to be hosted in 5-star hotels in locations ranging from the Swiss Alps to tropical Indonesia. We were also able to take trips on motocycles, motorhomes and sailboats all over the world.
From @Ratatrip we try to inspire others to follow their dreams and change their mindset, exchanging the word BUYING for GETTING, which allows us to think outside of the box and come up with new ideas on how to do it.
