The Internet has a long-standing history of its own. For the Snapchat and Messenger generation of today, the Internet is a web of mobile apps, web services, and video streaming. The initial version of the Internet was not meant for any of these. In fact, it had a larger purpose - a national security-centric one.
The Internet took birth as the ARPA - a military project. Later, thanks to constant fiddling by scientists, it took form as a public utility that can be used by commoners. It was in the early 1990s that the Internet started becoming an easily accessible and usable public utility. The broadband connectivity as we know it today was introduced with fractional bandwidth.
Yahoo, AOL, eBay, Amazon and several other online brands joined the cyberspace during this time. Very soon social networks like Facebook also join the bandwagon. Within the past one decade, the Internet has transformed more than it ever has in the past 3 decades. We made this infographic that shows how the Internet has grown from scratch.
