We made this vid in Kingston, Jamaica with a bunch of our friends who are amazing Jamaican dancers, to show that dancehall dance isn't just some ass-shaking twerking trend.
Dancehall dance culture in Jamaica is way more technical, creative, innovative and raw than what you see in American music videos or mainstream music and media.
Dancehall has its own history of moves, music and influences from different eras in Jamaica's history, dating back to the colonial era through to now. It's also an all-consuming lifestyle for the dedicated dancers.
We thought it was really important to showcase, because you often see dancehall moves and style featured in international music videos from major artists from Justin Bieber to Drake and Rihanna, but the Jamaican dance community is rarely directly acknowledged or credited.
These young dancers live in a developing country and it's often a major struggle to get by as an artist. We wanted to highlight some of these dancers' passion, creativity, talent, energy, determination and hard work, so hopefully they can get some recognition and appreciation coming back at them.
So here is a list of the names of the dancehall moves and their creators, from half of the music vid. If you want to see the full video with names of all the moves, go here: https://goo.gl/zmSyQQ
Full list of dancers' names and IG handles in the link below. Please show them a little love and go check them out!
