Mr. Satish founder of Vizag Volunteers always wanted to do something for the society that made him share the concept of helping people with his friends. He is also a member of the 5 A.M club, JCI Vizag, CII, and various other organizations. The nature of helping people and reaching out to solve their problems made him receive many social service awards.
His role model is A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, Steve Jobs, and Chandra Babu Naidu. His only effort is to make this society a better place to live in. Vizag Volunteers project was started under Kalam Labs to provide help to the needy in this COVID pandemic. He was able to provide food to more than 2 lakhs people and also many other regular items to the people who are living in and around the Vizag city. He is also actively involved in cleaning the beach for the past one year and also started a campaign on Beach Cleaning as I Love Vizag Beach.
In this Pandemic, he has been the eyes and ears of Vizag trying to help people with various COVID-19 activities such as providing blood if one needs it. On the Vizag volunteers website, one can log in and enter the blood group that is needed for the patients, and once it’s available the helpline services will get back to them. Plasma services are provided where it’s the same procedure as blood requirements. One has to fill the form if they want to donate plasma or request for plasma and also check if they are eligible to donate plasma. Medical kit services that are for home quarantine people who wish to stay in their homes rather than in the hospital. The items in the kit are recommended by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and AYUSH Ministry.
The medical kit consists of Medical supplies, an Immunity booster pack which contains many herbal items that are to be mixed with 10 glasses of water, and boiled for an hour till water reduces to half. It’s recommended to add fresh tulsi leaves, pudina leaves, and lemon juice for more good health. We also provide miscellaneous items such as hand wash, disposal glasses, plates, spoons, and garbage bags. We provide Pulse Oximeter for monitoring the oxygen saturation level. We are supplying oxygen cylinders to solve breathing problems to the patients who are home quarantine or who couldn’t get a bed in the hospital for oxygen supply. If you feel that you have COVID symptoms we help you to consult a doctor. Our other services include sanitization, Protection kits which start with a Bronze kit for 1500/-, a Silver kit for 2500/-, a Gold kit for 4000/- and a Platinium kit for 6000/-. You can choose the kit according to your needs. We also provide consultation on food, immunity, motivation, and helpline services available 24/7 to guide you in the right way. We also give awareness programs, emergency services to help you in Quarantine. As most of them are not willing to take responsibility for COVID bodies we are here to handle them.
Volunteering is something where we need more people to come in for help. It’s not a one-man process which can be done easily. Vizag Volunteers which started off with a small group of close friends has now extended their wings far enough to gather more than 500 volunteers. People in and around the city of Vizag had seen the way Vizag Volunteers were doing their bit of help to the needy and started to join the WhatsApp group to provide any small to big help that we needed. It was a great start that has led to a huge circle of people to volunteer wherein we needed to form teams so that it would be easy to assign them their daily tasks without having any confusion.
Some of the volunteers were assigned to take care of the food preparation, some of them took care of the groundwork, one team was handling all the social media activities, receiving calls on the helpline numbers provided, one team took responsibility to reach out to the people who needed plasma and blood or who would like to donate for the people who are in need. We made sure that all the team members followed COVID norms by wearing masks, gloves, dress, and face shields as they are more prone to the infection. The food that we prepared was never wasted, even if one team has any leftover food packets they were passed on to the other team location who needed them. Our micro-level management at every location in the city helped us to gather more information about the places that needed our services. Our volunteers were always ready to help even in the middle of the night if it’s an emergency. During the lockdown, Vizag had seen LG Polymer gas leak that had taken many lives and left many people sick. Our volunteers were able to rush to the location at midnight to provide their help. They admitted many people to different hospitals, provided food and other items.
