Why is everybody talking about seizing the day? Do we have that need actually? Or it’s just a quote we learned from movies that we repeat to ourselves when we are getting screen burnt? And at this point, if you are not interested in changing this habit, you are free to skip this article.
Last week I was looking at old photos of my grandma’s youthhood. I realized that all the photos were so amazingly candid (just like Marilyn Monroe in her movies). I was thinking how amazing it would be to be raised back in the 50s and have all these romantic moments like old people had experienced. Agh! But we live in 2019 and things are slightly changed (of course I’m being sarcastic).
So, what can we do to feel more spontaneous and stop procrastinating/scrolling that motha****ing screen? Make more friends? Turn off our phones? Quit that boring job? The answer is YES. To make these happen though, we should talk about some ideas that I would love to share with you.
Let’s remember how Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City spontaneously had so many crazy experiences and sex life, aka vintaging the moment (okuuuurrr). From going out to clubs and bars, to having small trips with her friends, going to events in her city, buying shoes, having brunches on Sundays, studying the Vogue magazine while having some coffee and MOST IMPORTANTLY having friends who care about her and are living the best of their lives. So, the next time you caught yourself being bored over the screen, get your head up and stop that habit immediately (maybe counting from 5 to 1 helps). Call your friends, paint something, participate in a masterclass, go for a long walk and take photos, go to a new store, try a nice bistro, go to an event/museum/exhibition try yoga, try making a journal. Get out of that comfort zone.
Even if you are having an amazing time out with your friends, you don’t need to post photos every 5 minutes (it’s just a habit that you have, and you can break it)! Take photos but post them the morning after, while hangovering with a huge cup of coffee. Speaking about photos, I have a very special friend which is still using film and rarely her smartphone. I can say that the impatience for the printing process of the films is such an amazing feeling (and we forgot how it’s like, or we never had the opportunity to use a film camera before). So, go ahead, find that old camera from your parents’ drawer and take photos without knowing the ending result.
You are now thinking that all these ideas sound good but inside your mind, you might say “Meh, I don’t have money, I don’t have time, I can’t make new friends, etc.”. Don’t worry, I am in the same situation as you. I always find myself thinking that my money is not enough and that I’m so anti-social sometimes that nobody would like to chat with me. But living in a world with so many opportunities and people, makes me realize that above all, we are all humans and we got to do whatever we desire! (Damn, I’m already motivated from writing this).
“Life’s too short” is repeated often enough to be a cliché, but this time it’s true. You don’t have enough time to be both unhappy and mediocre. It’s not just pointless; it’s painful.

Some words about me:
Hola muchachos! My name is Eleni and I am a to-be-graduate student at the Athens University of Economics and Business (Greece). Since I was a little girl, I was a creative weirdo. At the age of 17, I had to decide what I want to study. My heart was saying “be a hairdresser” and my brain was saying “study business to survive”. So, I’m studying both because I’m a passionate former marketer and hairdresser (YAS). I love crafts, DIY, yoga and dogs (ok, maybe cats too). I’m now starting my journey into writing and creative marketing skills by writing articles.
