However, there are no guarantees that old and cold cases will be resolved, even with modern methods.

In these instances, the benefit comes from knowing that all of the evidence and information you’ve re-evaluated and that you’ve entered into the investigative repositories will now live on in perpetuity for future investigators,” the NIJ states.
This adds investigative integrity to the case.
