Uk Govt Welcomes Syrian Refugees! Why?

The government, our government, has accepted Syrian child refugees within its borders, how wonderful! Except that these children don't exactly look like children, they seem more like Syrian adults. Apparently they've come from Calais, France (I reiterate this just in case under the glare of Brexit, you've forgotten where Calais is).
What our government has done is marvellous, it is endeavouring to keep a tiny bit of the promise it made, prior to the terrorist atrocities carried out all over Germany. It has steeled itself to ignore the horrific terrorist events that transpired in France, it has refused to tar innocents, from a country in part occupied by Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) with the same brush as those whose radicalisation led them to take French & German lives.
Our government appears to have ignored the problems this country currently has with Pakistani English language 'students' many of whom overstay their visa limits & disappear into our inner cities, only to wind up under arrest for thieving and on their way back to Pakistan.
It has overlooked the proliferation of drug dealing violence that has sprung up in the wake of impoverished Somalian & Sudanese communities settled in the inner cities (some of the criminal cases associated with members of these communities would make the average drug dealer's gorge rise). It also appears to have disregarded the increased numbers of Eastern European criminal offenders currently clogging up our beleaguered prison system.
The police, it seems have been lumbered with the responsibility for resolving all of these disparate challenges, even despite their under-funding & their depleted numbers...
If what I'm stating seems a little racist then please bear in mind that for decades Britain has welcomed Jews, Sikhs, Hindu's, West Africans & West Indian communities without having to face any of the dire complications that seem to attend 21st century immigration these days.
Meanwhile,Brexit continues a-pace, a negotiating team (excluding the usual brand of Euro-Xpert) has been pulled together and though big business panicks, our exit from Europe looms large. Freedom of movement and control of British borders is the biggest issue, so why has the government accepted all these Syrian 'child' refugees? I must confess I am as puzzled over this as I was over the closure of Russia Today's British bank accounts.
