It all started in Cairo, Egypt by 2 girls. Realising that Egypt produced 3 MILLION TONES of plastic waste every single year, Rania Rafie and Yara Yassin decided to take things into their own hand.
They decided to launch Up-fuse; a 100% Egyptian social startup that promotes eco-conscious lifestyles by designing and producing quality products made from upcycled plastic bags.
All Up-Fuse products are exclusively handmade by local artisans in Egypt. Every produced bag allows upcycling 30 plastic bags and generating income to 5 underprivileged families. Encouraging local artisans and designers to work with eco-friendly materials is the core of Up-Fuse objectives.
Up-Fuse partners with a local NGO located in garbage city in Cairo. The NGO's aim is to provide garbage collectors a better standard of health and living. Up-Fuse role is to teach drop out students or those who are not enrolled in a full-time education due to financial difficulties, the upcycling technique. This approach will encourage them to finish their education while generating income to support their families.
A part of our revenue goes back to the NGO to support the youth to engage in a co-education curriculum and work in healthy conditions.
THE BEST PART: Every single bag is unique! No 2 bags are similar!
They are now expanding to Canada.
