They say we understand the lyrics of a song when it aligns with our feelings. When we connect to a song, we feel every word the artist sings as if they were tattooed on our bodies, or written by ourselves. Most of the times these songs express our emotions in ways we cant or don’t know how. Human beings are always looking for people that can relate to the way they feel about things in life. So when a song describes the words our hearts cannot pronounce, its meaning has a big impact on us. We feel closer to the artist because we feel understood. This is how I feel about Pink’s new album, Beautiful Trauma.
My dear friend, (who I’ve known for three years but occupies a big sister role in my heart) and her sweet daughter, my niece Chloe, had the amazing idea of re-creating Pink’s Beautiful Trauma’s album cover photo in appreciation and as a tribute to her powerful words that absolutely connect with all of us as well as her beautiful voice.
Chloe is a six-year-old little girl that resides in Florida. She’s been exposed to the news of the terrible tragedy resulting from the recent shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School by her own parents and teachers in an effort to better protect her and her older brother in case God forbid a similar situation happens again. A few days ago, Chloe told her parents that Pink’s song “What about us” sounded like a plea for help from children across America shouting out to adults to make changes to laws to help better protect them. Her parents were shocked at how much Chloe could connect to Pink’s lyrics, especially at such young age; so that’s when they came to me and asked for a collaborative photo project. Chloe’s mom, Sam, became her most creative self and designed Chloe’s costume herself and with a little of my Photoshop magic, we created our tribute to Pink. She’s our role model.
