Since we are not allowed to travel at the moment, my longing for landscape and travels occupies me all the more. I love traveling. At the moment not so much into the distance, but into the proximity, the closeness of the immediate surroundings, the closeness of the body, and more than ever, travelling in the mind.
On hikes I collect unusual, often damaged leaves in nature, dry, press and rubberize them before I enter into a dialogue with them. My artistic means are acrylic, watercolour, ink, oil chalk, yarn and pearls. There are different colours and textures of the skin of the leaves, sometimes rough, sometimes silky and smooth, sometimes moist, fat and furry, sometimes covered with freckles, birthmarks or injuries. The the skins and veins of leaves for me become rivers, paths, landscapes and maps. I create meshes of lines and shapes of different character, whereby the outer form and the skins of the leaves become part of the work: 'Leafscapes‘ or in German: 'Blattscapes'.
Then I take the Blattscapes with me on my wanderings, like friends who we are not allowed to see at the moment. In front of landscape backdrops I portray them in widescreen format and observe how they behave towards light, weather and the environment. Aspects of the cinematic - the movement, the walking, the attentiveness - become part of the work. The leaves are returned to nature, a relocalisation is created. And some leaves find a new home in the landscape.
