Luke has S.M.A., is 22 years old and has spent his life in a wheelchair.
Powerchair costumes are challenging but we decided to go over the top since there are so many activities he can't participate in. From irrigation pipe to skyscraper siding the materials were gathered, crafted and pieced together. My wife patiently endured aluminum shavings being tracked throughout the house seeing as I have no proper workshop and helped with design as did Luke.
This summer he entered 2 Steampunk competitions. As we arrived a contestant shouted out "why don't we all just forfeit now!" LOL And, at the second contest; as the judges said "and in first place" everyone just instinctively stepped aside to make way for Luke. Even before his name was announced :)
