I came up with this series that I called "redirected art" back in 2012, as I hate seeing items with potential go to waste and end up in landfill.
It's always a special moment when I complete a painting, but the part I enjoy the most is the very beginning when I am deciding on what I'm going to add in- so many scenarios can come to mind and then filtering it down to one is challenging but fun at the same time.
People love seeing the fun in my work, as well as the nostalgia and pure randomness. Art can be conceived as too seriously most of the time, and I believe humor and art mixes rather nicely.
Having been an artist and illustrator since 1992, this series of redirected thrift art is just one aspect of what I do- I do dark and whimsical Halloween themed art, pop art and many forms of upcycling- holiday painted ornaments using burnt out light bulbs, paintings on salvaged unplayable vinyl records and sculpture with found objects.
Even though I've been a professional for 30 years, and have been blessed to have my work all over the globe, there are times when I do feel burnout and fatigue- but time is precious and after a brief break, the motivation to work on the next new piece kicks in and I hope that piece will bring joy to someone, somewhere in the world.
