It's so easy to fall into the trap of thinking that some people just ARE creative — that it's something you either have or you don't. This video from online music school Soundfly was a nice reminder that everyone has creative potential, and that you have so much to gain by just experimenting and trying out new creative projects.
Two years ago, my husband was working on starting Soundfly from our kitchen table. I was at work and saw an animated TED Talk by music instructor Tim Hansen on how to read music that was really light and fun and engaging. I sent it to Ian, and out of nowhere he emailed Tim and asked if he'd like to make a course together. Tim, a total stranger on the other side of the planet, said yes (?!) and they started writing a music composition course. One day, out of the blue, Tim emailed a script for this video — saying they'd spent so much time thinking about HOW to teach music composition, they hadn't stepped back and thought much about WHY anyone would want to learn. Ian and the crew stopped everything and started turning my house upside down doing arts and crafts — making a pipe cleaner synthesizer, a cardboard typewriter, a gift wrapped piece of plywood. And finally today, two years after watching Tim's TED Talk, they posted this video, and it turned out so well! I'm totally inspired.
