This image of a teacher and students from a 4th grade class has gained international recognition and is becoming a symbol of the effort and commitment of all teachers, especially in the pandemic that the world is going through.
When schools were closed this year, teachers were faced with the need to complete, in adverse and unprecedented conditions, the journey they had started with their students. This professional class belongs to the group of heroes that during the pandemic continues to care for the education and development of our children.
In view of the lack of an appropriate farewell at the end of the academic year, in July the parents of these students organized a reunion on the beach between teacher and students. Photographer Ricardo Silva, the father of one of the students in the class, proposed to make the photographic record of the reunion, providing the capture of this moment that illustrates the children following the teacher's path determined, in a symbolic allusion to his role.
“With this photo I wanted to pay tribute to our daughter's teacher and, through him, all the teachers. It is a profession of fundamental importance to society and is often overlooked. I think we have to give it real value ”, explains the author.
The image won first place in an international photographic competition in the light of the theme “Unity”. At the beginning of the year Ricardo Silva was nominated for “photographer of the year 2020” by APPImagem (Portuguese Association of Image Professionals) and was the first international photographer to be distinguished with the title of “Master Photographer - Child” awarded by NAPCP , an international professional association, which recognizes excellence in the child portrait category.
