Eco Alkhemy, a dedicated textiles & embroidery designer trained at various London Collages over several years. She previously undertook well over a decade of personal studies including History, Metaphysics, Arcane Sciences, & much more.
While studying Egyptology at a London University, she realised she was unfulfilled, craving more creativity. Having always been creative but untrained in the disciplines, she began with a City & Guilds in Soft Furnishing at Morley College, Lambeth while simultaneously taking a Btec Level 3 in Art, Design, Fashion & Textiles, achieving a Double Distinction. During this intense period she recognized her passion for textiles.
Eco returned to Morley College for the Textiles Foundation, gaining a High Merit & pursued various other textiles, sewing, print, batik & interior design courses. She worked voluntarily in a print department of a Tower Hamlets college, interned briefly for Artist Sequin Kay plus a high profile events design crew.
Post Textiles Foundation, Eco exhibited her work at 504 Gallery & created several collections of Bespoke Luxury Accessories, selling 3 collections in 3 months. She then discovered Stitches in Time, a veteran local charity where she undertook further garment production training & volunteering.
Eco knew her passion lay in textiles rather than fashion. Stitches in Time offered a second course where Eco was granted the freedom to truly be herself creatively
At this point Eco discovered the exquisite work of Master Costume Broderer Michele Carragher, creator of embroideries for Game of Thrones. Michele's work took Eco's breath away-it was as if time stood still when the realization of wanting to focus on embroidery hit her in such a positive way.
Eco took 2 micro workshops with Hand & Lock & Bella Lane, immersing herself wholeheartedly into learning raised hand embroidery which she combines with many other techniques. She now has an ever growing body of work & teaches hand embroidery with Stitches in Time at their studio in Stepney City Farm.
Eco's works are created using mainly recycled materials that push her creativity & uphold her ethos of non wastage of re-usable goods.
No Serial Number, an Eco Conscious Lifestyle Magazine run by Francesca Palange & Team, published several of Eco's works that are inspired by Game of Thrones & Michele Carragher. The first Print Issue of No Serial Number, Summer 2016 contained a full feature of Eco Alkhemy's raised embroideries.
