The serbian artist Svetomir Arsić Basara, grew among the stunning nature of the Šar mountains in Serbia which inspired his life's work.
He often mentions his father who used to carve wood to provide for his family and who ispired him to make sculptures out of wood.
His life is indeed quite facinating: he started working at a young age, helping the family.
When his country got invaded by Nazi Germany, he joined the Yugoslav Partisan movement (he was only 14 years old!) with ideals of freedom and liberation.
After the war he studied and became one of the most respected suclptors in his country.
These sculptures are deeply inspired by the important historical events and figures of medieval Serbia.
Enjoy!
PS He is the author of two of the famous "Spomenik" monuments, one of wich still exists today in Brezovica.
