My name is Suzie and I’m the founder of Catnap, the home of luxurious gifts for cat lovers. My idea for the brand first came about when, after being a life-long cat lover myself, I played around with my illustrations one day to create two bowls with cats laying in the centre. The design made it look as if they were sleeping in a sink or some other inappropriate napping spot (after all, if I fits I sits) and many friends and family visiting my house commented that they loved the effect.
From these two bowls I’ve since grown the brand to create a range of gifts for cat lovers sporting charismatic cats on everything from tea pots to egg cups. My process begins with the concept of a cat, built from years of fussing over unwitting felines as well as photographs from friends and family. It takes time transforming my ideas into a finished design, but once complete I like to think they capture the humorous and unique personalities of our feline friends!
Once the concept is complete, I work with the wonderful staff at Potteries of England by Duchess China (est. 1888) to turn them into a range of fine bone china. I’m so pleased to have the opportunity to work with this heritage industry which uses skilled craftspeople right here in the UK, in turn reducing the carbon footprint of Catnap.
My homegrown process, while a labour of love, has afforded me the pleasure of being able to create luxurious pieces which I’m able to market at affordable prices. Over time I’ve expanded my range to include statement pieces such as these large decorative serving bowls, to charming items which would make fabulous little gifts for cat lovers such as egg cups, mugs and trinket trays.
I’m also open to custom orders so that together we can work to create a lasting memory of your cherished pet which I hope you’ll treasure for a lifetime.
