On the 31st of Dec, 2016 when the entire world was welcoming the new year, there was a Mass molestation incident that happened on the streets of Bangalore. Instead of finding the root cause as the twisted mindset of the people who were responsible, there was a lot of victim blaming done all over the media. It angers me as a woman, shames me as a person and saddens me as a human being.
I wrote this poem as a protest to what women face almost everyday all their lives. I am a feminist. I believe in equal rights for all men and women but we will never reach that level of equality if women don't even have the rights to their own body. It is sad what happens when the boundaries of personal space are not respected. Its even worse when the common thought uniting women all across the world is how scary the world from a women's point of view is.
Despite being a realist, this time I choose to be an optimist.
I hope for a better world out there. A better future.
I have no other choice. But to hope.
