In Thirsk, North Yorkshire, the Thirsk Yarnbombers have knit 40,000 knitted and crocheted poppies – using 450 miles of yarn!
In Commonwealth countries, the red remembrance poppy is a familiar emblem of Remembrance Day (observed on November 11th every year), due to the poem “In Flanders Fields” written by Canadian doctor Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae.
It’s an incredible accomplishment.
