In late 2014, a bunch of Romanian doctors made it their mission to reach out to the rural population. They call themselves 'The Mobile Caravan'. This came after governmental statistics showed that only a small fraction of the budget for healthcare is invested in the rural medical services, despite the disproportionate rate urban/rural, the latter making up for half of the country's population.
Three years in and they already uncovered concerning facts: the rate of healthcare insurance is twice or even three times higher than in urban areas, medical education lacks greatly among children, teenagers and young adults, causing a risk of exposure to chronic infectious diseases.
Once a month, the team of 30 doctors travels to remote locations, often without main roads or proper electrical network, to give free medical investigations, consults and treatment.
In hope that their mission will make the country's officials to focus on the matter, they engage public figures, private companies or the general population to take action.
