The Treepot - Ceramic Artwork By Amanda Barker

I am a ceramic artist from Salt Lake City, Utah. Detail work is my creative process. It is a meditation, creating little intricacies in the layers of bark texture. The breath of Life enters into it as I hand paint each tiny crevice.
I value artwork that looks pleasant to the eye and also serves a function. It is important to me that my tea-ware pours well, feels comfortable in the hand, and becomes a member of the household.

ABOUT the sculpture
This is an original sculpture made from high fire porcelain clay. The body is slab built with coil additions and various spiked features attached using clay slip.
Xiao Baitu (literal translation from Chinese means 'White Rabbit') is a compilation of the 'predator and prey', the prey being a rabbit and the predator being a serpent.

Maple leaf plates

I gather leaf specimens from my favorite trees to immortalize a small taste from that season. Each plate is very unique. I do not use a mold and after the initial impression, the leaf is returned to the Earth for compost. The photographs depict the slight variations each of these leaves will portray.

Horse Chestnut Treepot

These high fired porcelain tea sets are my favorite pieces to create. Each kyusu tea pot is hand carved and comes in two sizes: 4 or 12 fl oz. There is a strainer built into the spout which is fine for large leaf teas, such as Oolong. For the finer leaf teas, I sell infusers.
