As a belated Chanukah/early Christmas gift my husband, Graham, and I gave my mom this artwork. Over the past few months my mom had expressed sadness at all the horrible stories in the news. From the fires in California, to shootings and other tragedies, our news is often saturated with the negative in the world. To counteract this, Graham found a bunch of positive news stories, which I painted, tore/cut and created this sunflower. Sunflower heads rotate with the sun so that the can absorb the maximum amount of light, which I found to be an excellent metaphor for focusing on positivity. Included in the painting is a QR code to the stories, so that she always has access to glimpses of positivity in the world. We are living in bizarre times and it is easy to focus on the problems and flaws before us. However, there is also so much good and positivity around us that is just dampened and concealed by the darkness of negativity. I hope this art can serve as a beacon of light to cut through that darkness
