"Drawing is not what I do but what I am"
I've been drawing for as long as I can remember. Maybe I started out of necessity: I wanted what I was drawing to be as real as possible. More and more real, because the subjects I chose from time to time were always linked in some way to something that I needed to feel mine at a more intimate level.
Hyperrealism, according to some, is definitely not a style to choose when it comes to feelings and emotions. They say it's just cold technique.
But I firmly disagree.
"The Gift" is the result of a very important inner revolution. It is itself a celebration of the gift of being able to feel something in life.
There have been months of introspection and growth behind, during which I found a new connection with my Art. A more real reading key. Today more than ever I realize that drawing has always been not just what I do, but what I am. And this time I listened well to what I had to say to myself, and to other people.
"The Gift" is the gift of being able to feel something.
You get excited because you are alive. You cry, smile, love. You are impetus, strength, vibration. But sometimes you are afraid. Sometimes you choke. Sometimes you don't feel life anymore. Which is the blood, the vital impulse, the essence, the rose.
A rose that you relegate under a glass dome. Where you hope it will remain unharmed and beautiful forever. Frozen.
Breaking the glass, however, is the price to pay to live authentically.
It is the necessary sacrifice of an external but eternal beauty to get to the essence of things. Which is another even more powerful and devastating type of beauty asking you one condition: it requires the courage to give up the protective barriers that muffle sounds and tone down fragrances.
In a word, The Gift is EXPOSING YOURSELF.
Because only if you expose yourself and accept the possibility of getting hurt and being "contaminated" from the outside, you can fully enjoy the Gift. Just as only the crystalline and limpid vibration of a glass that breaks allows you to fully enjoy the scent of the rose. That it's you, me, our human nature and the intensity and sharpness with which we are able to perceive all things.
