Christmas Markets are spaces of festivity, happiness and social interaction. The sad events that happened a few days ago in Berlin should not make us forget the beauty of these traditional markets in various countries in Europe, the magical environment they create around the holiday season and, more importantly, the amazing people who work behind each and everyone of the small stands, bringing beautiful handcrafted products and delicious homemade food.
My name is Mariel Orellana, I am a Guatemalan photographer based in Madrid, and I love visual storytelling. I took these pictures in Munich's Christmas Markets at the beginning of December and through them I want you to feel the magical spirit and happiness of this environment.
I want to share these pictures with the world, as a tribute to all of Berlin's victims, and also to remind us that the world is beautiful: it is up to all of us become the light amidst the darkness.
