For almost a decade, an online community existed where people didn’t have to wait for a new year to make resolutions.
Any time you set a new goal for yourself, you simply went online and added up to 43 things to your profile. There, you could track your progress, year round, as you connected with fellow dreamers, inspired one another and celebrated your achievements.
This community, 43 Things, had a wonderfully positive effect on many people’s lives before it shut down 2 years ago (as evidenced by the great amount of resolution-posters whose 2017 dream is “To have the old 43 Things back!”)
Well, the site will soon be back! And better than ever. And in preparation, we’ve created a Resolution Board where thousands of people have been posting - sometimes heartfelt, sometimes hilarious - goals for the New Year.
So do you think you know what the most common goals are? You might be surprised!
Here are the top 10 resolutions people have posted so far:

10. Friends

Whether it’s making new ones or finding time for old ones, people are wanting to be friendlier in 2017.

9. Family

What up fam? One spot ahead of friendship on the list- supporting family, spending more time with family members, and taking more family vacations are all common resolutions.
8. Finding a New Job

“Work, work, work, work, work” -Rihanna
7. Lose Weight

Yup, this one is all the way down here at number 7.
6. Buying New Things

New houses, new cars, and new phones are the internet’s sixth most important goal. (Given, the participants in this sample size clearly all have working computers- I never said this was a scientific analysis).
5. Exercise/Yoga

I guess this explains the surprisingly low placement of ‘Weightloss’. Luckily, more people are focused on their health and zen" than they are on simply shedding the weight. Namaste Internet.
4. Learn A New Language

Hablas Espanol? Parlez-vous Francais? Sprechen Sie Deutsch?
3. Money

Clearly these resolution-posters have never heard the wise, ancient wisdom: ‘mo money, ‘mo problems.
2. Love

Ah, Love! Were you as surprised as I was that this wasn’t #1?
1. Travel

Okay, I’m not as surprised about Love anymore. Give me a suitcase over a relationship any day.
And some more ...

While these were the 10 most common goals found on The Board, they certainly weren’t the only ones.
Other people’s goals were a little ambitious:
[I want to... be tall (170 cm)]
Even if this user hasn’t hit puberty yet, I’m not sure this is a goal they can affect much
[I want to... meet Michael Jackson (I know he isn’t alive)]
Please call me if you figure this one out!
[I want to... eat a baboon]
Not sure about the logistics or appeal on this one but hey! To each their own.
[I want to... go back in time to 1998]
Someone either had a really awesome 1998 or has been having a really crappy millennium.
[I want to… speak to extra terrestrials]
“I’ll believe in you all my life, everyday. E.T... I love you.”
And yet other people’s dreams for 2017 are quite simple:
[I want to... boil an egg]
Not the most egg-citing goal maybe, but you have to respect them for keeping it real. Sorry that was a bad pun.. at least I crack myself up.
So cheers! to everyone looking for love, health, and happiness in 2017.
If you can use a bit of help organizing your goals make sure you check out the new 43 Things site and connect with the short, baboon-eating, Michael Jackson-impersonating, dreamers of the world.
