In fact, humor plays an important role in the learning process, and this is primarily due to the transformation of the role of the teacher. If earlier, a few decades ago, the teacher was the main source of information for students, now they most often become just a moderator of the discussion in the class. Not a superior, but one of the participants in the learning process.
"Formality level between teacher and students are similar to friends or students considering a teacher as a friend," says Nor Azizah Ahmad of Pendidikan Sultan Idris University in Malaysia, who, together with her colleagues, conducted a special study on the impact of classroom humor on learning success.
"Excessive joke elements can cause students to lose focus in learning and if jokes are well implemented, it can help in achieving good academic accomplishment and helping students to be highly spirited," Ahmad also notes.
No less important is the presence of a sense of irony for the teacher. Indeed, firstly, a person must remember that they themselves were about the same as a teenager, and secondly, they must not be offended by not always successful and sometimes even offensive jokes, but simply laugh with the students.
