SUPREMOGRAPHY OF LIGHT
(from lat. supremus - the highest and from other Greek and γραφω - I write) - the highest pattern of light
The term I proposed to refer to Suprematism, as a direction in art, applies exclusively to photography, obtained by using the technology of the historical photo process, which allows light to leave traces on photosensitive material.
All photoes made using the wet plate collodion process technique on 13x18 cm glass plates, here are their black-and-white photo copies with wide black frames.
I shoot on an old format camera in natural light, since the collodion is most sensitive to the ultraviolet spectrum.
My tools, my permanent team are God, Light, chemistry, glass plates, brushes and home-made patterns that allow me to “draw” my thoughts and feelings on glass through light.
Examining the duration of the light entering the photosensitive layer, I get not perfect geometric shapes, otherworldly and unexpected images: I draw and cut out my patterns and pass light through them. Chemistry, responding to environmental factors, manipulations and shelf life - is crucial in the final image. In fact, I am negotiating with chemistry and light, trusting them.
TECHNOLOGY OF THE PROCESS
A thin layer of collodion with dissolved salts of bromides and iodides is applied to one side of a thoroughly washed glass plate, then the plate is immediately immersed in a solution of silver nitrate for a period of 4 to 5 minutes, where a chemical reaction occurs and silver halides are formed - silver iodide, silver bromide.
Further, until the plate has dried (no more than 10 minutes), it will be connected to the template created in advance and displayed in a large format camera. Exposure times range from one to sixty seconds or more. Further, the plate appears and is fixed. The color of the original ambrotype is slightly brownish, depending on a lot of factors, mainly related to the work of reagents.
I shoot every day, there are days when not a single glass works good... But I go, go, drag my hair and each successful work is the answer to my question “why”?
I dream that one of my plates would fly to Mars ... I am sure that it is from there ... It must return home ....
