In the past 2000 days since I came to live in London, I kept visiting the royal parks to watch and photograph the wide range of beautiful trees and animals.
Quite soon my favourite park became the Richmond Park, with its magnificent size, close to 1000 hectares, feels like you are rather in a forest than in a park. It gives home to 600+ red and fallow deer that live freely in the park.
The park has many gates, my spot has been the Robinhood Gate as it is easily accessible from west London with buses like 85.
Throughout the years I came to understand some basic behaviours of the deer that helped me choosing the right time and places to photograph them. The best time is the rutting season the whole of October and early November. You need to be careful though as the stags are full of testosterone this time so do not get too close!
Their level of activeness is at its peak just around sunrise. So if you want to catch them playing, fighting and not only eating and still you want to wake up at a decent time you need to choose either late Autumn or Winter when the sun only rising at around 8am. Also, if you are lucky you even get some mist, foggy dawn to capture stunning combination of deer and lights.
Like some of my photos below, hope you like them ...
