Bored Panda reached out to Makrygiannakis to delve deeper into his photography journey and learn more about the person behind the lens. The artist shared that he developed an interest in photography a few years before 2010, but it primarily involved taking typical tourist photos during his vacations. "In 2010, I joined Flickr, and a series of accidental events introduced me to artistic photography, especially street photography. This was the start of my journey."
When he's out taking pictures, Makrygiannakis is looking for something with artistic value. "Realizing the artistic value of a scene is a process that takes time and effort, and it is never-ending. It is also something very subjective and can change with time."
According to the artist, photography is a tool for expressing and discovering himself. "My passion for it comes from this. Photography, even if it is just a passion and not my job, is a part of my life on a daily basis."
We asked the photographer what he would want others to take away from his photographs. The artist replied that he would like to stimulate the brains of the viewers of his photos. "Stimulating the brain is a process that naturally leads to taking away something after viewing a photo. What exactly they will take away is of minor interest to me."
