Here is an account that's sitting in the Pentagon’s online records, in an unnamed file, and is one of the most fascinating accounts of pilot interaction with unidentified flying objects (UFOs).
This document, sent to the CIA, NSA and White House in 1976, details an encounter between Iranian Air Force pilots and multiple bright, flashing objects that performed impossible maneuvers. A review later declassified by the NSA shows the pilots’ accounts were verified by a high-ranking general, radio tower operators and radar signatures.
During the encounter, several strange things were documented. For one, the object preferred to stay exactly 25 nautical miles away. When one pilot fired a missile, his weapons system was suddenly disabled. And lastly, the object was observed splitting into multiple bright spheres that showed their own curiosity in the jets, trailing them as they fled.
