I Became Friends With A Squirrel And Documented Our Friendship With Funny Photos (70 Pics)

I’ve been photographing squirrels for a couple of years now and these are pictures that I posted during the last 12 months. I have two previous posts here and here.

Squirrels make such good models, they are funny and cute and no two squirrels are the same. They look a little different, especially in their fur color, and they have unique personalities.

In the summer of 2020, I had been waiting for a squirrel to stop by for a couple of hours before I decided to head home. Just as I was leaving the park, I saw a squirrel on the other side of a stream. I called out to it: Hey! Come here!

I wasn’t expecting a reaction, but it came over to me. We took some pictures for half an hour and then we both went on our way.

She had a split ear that I hadn’t seen before, but she obviously recognized me.

There used to be a lot of squirrels at this place I visit, but she wanted to be alone, so for a while, I shot her and nobody else.

She is a little frantic, she grabs a nut, and then she runs far away to hide it. So it gets a little boring to wait for her.

I wasn’t having that, so when winter came I broke up with her and found a couple of other good squirrel spots. But after winter they went away and I went back to my buddy Halfear. And we became friends again.

There is a picture here with the title “Nosy.” When I took pictures at that location I started hand feeding her the nuts after I took my pic. Soon enough she started climbing my leg. Sometimes I would arrive and while I was setting up my gear, she was already climbing up my leg.

When you love someone you’re always worried about them. Do you worry that your friends will be eaten? I think not, but I do.
